This leaf chair brought together my love for hand-shaping and
carving and the imagery of nature that inspires my work. The
challenge here was to use those techniques and imagery
effectively in a chair, the one piece of furniture that so
completely interacts with the human form. A chair is the most
difficult piece of furniture to design and build, thus, done
well, the most gratifying.
Winner of the People's Choice Award at the March 2002 Haywood Community College Professional Crafts Graduate Show, held at the Folk Art Center in Asheville, NC.
